How it works

A double is one bet on two selections. If the first wins, its whole return is staked on the second, so the price is the two prices multiplied together. An each-way double is two doubles at the same stake: one on both selections to win, one on both to place.

What's in a double

The stake you enter is for each bet. Each way, every bet has a win part and a place part. For any other bet, from a single to a Goliath, use the bet calculator.

Worked through

A £5 each-way double at 6/1 and 8/1, with place terms of 1/5 the odds: 2 bets, £10.00 in all. The 6/1 won and the 8/1 was placed.

The win double needs both selections to win, so it loses. The place double pays £28.60, because both selections finished in the places.

Questions

  • How does an each-way double pay if only one selection wins?

The win double loses, because it needs both selections to win. The place double still pays if the other selection is placed, at each one's place terms.

  • What if one selection is a non-runner?

Set it to Non-runner and the double settles as a single on the other selection.

  • How are double odds worked out?

Multiply the two decimal prices. With fractions, add one to each, multiply, then take one away to get back to a fraction.
